JCB Volunteers Improve Durbin Park

By Webmaster 03/20/2018, 12:00pm EDT

Over the last 3 months Julington Creek Baseball (JCB) staff and parents have invested many volunteer hours in multiple Durbin Park improvements and maintenance activities. Led and managed by Dave Alberts, JCB Majors Division Commissioner, volunteers donated their time to complete improvements and maintenance activities including:

  • Replaced sections of the batting cage carpet
  • Fixed the overheard net’s dropdowns, aka elephant trunks
  • Rehung championship signs
  • Labeled batting cages by number
  • Disposed of old L-screens, torn tarps, and miscellaneous junk items
  • Installed baseball returns on each field
  • Created and hung Welcome to Durbin Park and Home of JCB banners
  • Fixed the flag pole, created a JCB flag, purchased a U.S. flag
  • Built two 8-foot picnic tables
  • Painted the inside of the restroom doors
  • Cleaned and polished the steel basins of the water fountains
  • Installed new soap dispensers, hand sanitizers, and air fresheners in the restrooms

St. Johns County has been helpful with achieving specialty tasked projects that are beyond JCB volunteers’ level of expertise (e.g., plumbing and electrical repairs, welding bleacher benches, and repairing the scoreboards). In addition, the Julington Creek 12U Travel parents have greatly improved the quality and choices of concession food at Durbin Park; especially those breakfast bagels. Yummm!!!!

The JCB Board would like to thank the following volunteers for their time and effort on these important park projects: Dave Alberts, Adam Lauramore, Dana Romano, Dan Bohan, Shane Johnston, and several parents of the JCB 11U Cobras and 12U Thunder teams. These helpful volunteers have taken the initiative to continue making Durbin Park baseball fields a place where other northeast Florida leagues want to come and play.

More improvements on the way…
