St Johns County Recreation and Parks Background Check & Badge Procedures for ALL CAA Volunteer Coaches & Adult Assistants

  1. ALL CAA Team Managers, Coaches, Assistants, Trainers and Parents that will be working with the children MUST be placed on a CAA league approved volunteer roster, which will be provided to St Johns County Recreation Supervisor Joe Shakar at Jshakar@sjcfl.us. This MUST be done for ALL new AND returning CAA Team Managers, Coaches, Assistants, Trainers and Parents. If volunteers are added during a sport’s season, then the CAA sport MUST notify St Johns County Recreation Supervisor Joe Shakar at jshakar@sjcfl.us of an update to their league volunteer roster.   2. Any NEW CAA Team Manager, Coach, Assistant, Trainer and Parent that will be working with the children MUST complete and submit a background check through the St Johns County Recreation and Parks Department. This is required by St Johns County. To access the Child Safety Policy For Youth Sports Participants paperwork for this important procedure >>Click Here Print paperwork, complete all pages and submit the completed forms to St Johns County Recreation Supervisor Joe Shakar along with a photo.   3. ALL CAA Team Managers, Coaches, Assistants, Trainers and Parents that will be working with the children are required to have a current St Johns County Badge Badges expire July 31st! If you are new, you MUST submit your Background Check and photo as previously cited above BEFORE you can receive your badge. New volunteers can submit their paperwork at anytime, but badges cannot be released until the CAA league approved volunteer roster has been submitted. St Johns County Regional Supervisor Joe Shakar will contact each sport as  badges are completed so they may be picked up.   4. ALL CAA Team Managers, Coaches, Assistants, Trainers and Parents that will be working with the children MUST have a current Badge BEFORE you can be on the field or in the dugout. Badges will be worn in plain sight at ALL times during practices and games by anyone who might be working with a team on the field or in the dugout even if it is on a temporary basis.   5. If you fail to wear your badge the following steps will be taken:
    1. First Offense you will be sent off the field and name recorded
    2. Second Offense you will be suspended for one week
    3. Third Offense you will be suspended for the rest of the season and reported to the CAA Board of Directors for disciplinary action.
  6. Effective since January 1, 2008, due to the cost of badges, the St Johns County is charging $10 per badge for any badge replacement.

Note: St Johns County-issued badges are good for ANY CAA sport, so if you obtained a current badge for another CAA sport, such as football or soccer, it is valid through July 31st each year.
